18 Months

So what's new?

Blue Eyes had an icky eye on Tuesday (his 18 month birthday) and when I took him to the doctor he also had a double ear infection. Poor kid. He never even acted like he didn't feel good... or so we thought... until the day after we started medicine, he was BUBBLING with happiness. In the best mood we've seen him in a while. So we're doing yummy medicine (he signed more tonight after I gave him some) and not-so-fun eyed drops.

That's the bad news. The good news is, he's really feeling more and more like a little boy than a baby. He's grown a LOT in the last six months, grown UP that is, he's tall and has just about outgrown ALL of his 18 month pants. I'm pulling out the 2T's.

He's a climbing fool, and will figure out a way to get up on every chair or stool in sight, even if it means he'll get stuck once he's there.

Then we get a "maaooom ALP" (translated to: mom help)

We hear "ALP" quite a bit actually, he's good at getting himself stuck in places and at trying to get toys together after he's destroyed them.

And he's becoming quite good at calling for his mom. First it was "MAMA" then it became "maaaooom" (over and over) and just in the last few days "mooommy"

I can't even tell you how many words he says... though you probably wouldn't be able to understand a lot of them. Things like "right here" (he's good at giving directions) and "come here" (sounds more like "Naar")

He decided at one point this winter to stop saying or signing "all done" when he's finished with a meal, instead he would dump his plate, throw his cup, wiggle, whine and Squirm trying to get up himself. So WE decided at one point that telling him no and then getting him down anyway wasn't working. Two meals of being made to sit in his chair until he was ready to say "all done" or "down" (now matter how much crying he did) did the trick. He now hands us his plate and says "all done". We have a brief reprieve before he comes up with something else I'm sure.

Oh, and he's gotten really good at blowing bubbles in the bathtub. It's adorable.

Last but not least, I'm really looking forward to summer, but not looking forward to the struggle we'll have (daily, i'm sure) about whether we stay inside or go out. We've given him a taste of a warmish spring day playing outside, and now that's about all he wants to do.
