my little thumbsucker

My little brother was born a thumbsucker, and my mom always raves about how wonderful thumbsuckers are - because that pacifying device is always there. You can't lose it, and you never have to buy replacements.

Neither of my babies were born thumbsuckers, and Little Man never really even found his thumb - he was extremely content with a pacifier.

Pipsqueak though, only likes the pacifier on occasion, when he's really tired.

And lately, while exploring his fists with his mouth, has been finding (and promptly losing) his thumb - just this week he may officially be becoming a thumbsucker. I noticed him soothe himself back to sleep with it on Tuesday (then get mad when it fell out of his mouth!) and just last night while laying on the floor at a friend's house he found that thumb and very contently laid on the floor sucking/chewing his thumb and watching his buddy (who is three weeks older and a mover) kick and wiggle and squirm.

Today, he's been hanging out in the swing with a firm latch on that thumb, happy as can be. My little thumbsucker.

What a cutie! I think the only downside to a thumbsucker is that when you want him to stop you can't just take it away like you could with a pacifier.
